A highly functional natural polysaccharide (galactoarabinan) derived from North American larches. It can be used in many personal care applications due to its many properties.
First and foremost is the function of reducing TEWL (transepidermal water loss) and providing long-lasting hydration. It has been shown in in vivo studies to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. With its film-forming properties, it can also be helpful in skin-tightening formulations.
In addition, it reduces the particle size of an emulsion, which improves the uniformity of the emulsion and promotes stability. Minimally, it also has a viscosity-enhancing effect.
By reducing droplet size and improving the distribution of solids such as pigments and mineral sunscreen ingredients, it acts as a natural SPF enhancer in sunscreens.
Very soluble in water and in many other solvents as well. It is an environmentally friendly and easily biodegradable raw material.
Properties:
- moisturizes the skin
- improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
- reduces the particle size of the emulsion to make the emulsion more stable and uniform
- improves the sun protection factor of sunscreens
- the film-forming property has a skin-tightening effect and is also very suitable for hair care (creates a barrier between hair and environmental influences)
- Restructuring feature: Reduction of TEWL.
Application:
Can be added to the water phase with any formulation. It is not suitable for anhydrous formulations. Not sensitive to heat and can be added to the water before heating.
Works at pH levels of 2-12 and can tolerate high levels of electrolytes
Dosages:
- TEWL reduction: up to 2% in creams and lotions
- Immediate skin tightening: 5%
- Optimization of particle dispersion in emulsions: 0.5-1%
- Film forming: 2-5%
- SPF Gain: 2-5%
